Purpose and background
Acute care and ambulance care are both under pressure and something has to be done to relieve this pressure. The challenges in acute care are connected with increasing demand and it is increasingly difficult to meet that demand at the right time and with the right healthcare provider.
Ambulance care is dealing with more call-outs and longer response times. The population is growing and the number of elderly people is increasing. Furthermore, vulnerable patient groups, such as the elderly, are continuing to live ever longer in their own homes. The demand for care is becoming more complex and changes in the care landscape, such as closures of A&E departments, sometimes more than one at the same time, can result in longer response times for ambulances. At the same time, the sector is struggling with staff shortages.
